THANK YOU TO D.E.B. AND COMMUNITY RESPONDERS

On Sunday, March 17th. An extraordinary synergy of community support, education, and equipment played a pivotal role in an effective community response. It demonstrated our ability to swiftly mobilize our trucks and volunteers from their winterized state, achieving significant results. This incident offers a wealth of learning opportunities.

Despite it still being winter, with conditions that had responders ankle-deep in mud, the occurrence of a grass fire was a stark wake-up call. Please stay vigilant and take necessary precautions.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to everyone for your collective efforts!

WHAT DEB IS DOING!

  • Provided professional wildland training for nearly 100 Islander’s who have participated in Wildland Firefighting Basics Training to date.

  • Implemented IamResonding.com application for our first responders in conjunction with SJC sheriff dispatch to provide situational awareness to responders and partner agencies.

  • Secured insurance policies for the brigade covering: volunteers, equipment, commandeered resources, and the organization.

  • Incorporated the Decatur Emergency Brigade as a local, state, and federally recognized organization with the maximum efficacy and benefits of an emergency response organization available.

  • Coordinating closely with the WA Department of Natural Resources and their jurisdiction over all rural unincorporated wildland areas, including the entirety of the San Juan Islands.

  • Participating in training with the San Juan County Interagency Wildland Response Team and cultivating our nearest resources on Lopez Island.

  • Ownership of the four (4) wildland response trucks, maintaining the equipment inventory, and planning strategic equipment upgrades.

  • Developed a Board of Directors including up to 9 representatives of the island’s community and demographic diversity.

  • Working with island HOAs to coordinate equipment resources, planned responses, membership involvement, and financial support.

  • Have hosted on island vaccination clinic with the SJC Health Department.

OUR MISSION : Enhance Wildland Fire readiness for Decatur Island and associated public safety.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK YOU.
